Finding something to do in Columbia means checking the Mizzou calendar, Visit Columbia, a handful of venue sites, Eventbrite and a dozen Instagram accounts. Ajay Kumar, a graduate student at the University of Missouri, got tired of that and built CoMo Events: a free iPhone app that pulls every public event in Columbia into one live map. It gathers listings from ten public sources around the clock, from the Mizzou calendar and The Blue Note to the Daniel Boone Regional Library and Cooper's Landing, sorts them into parties, music, food, arts, sports, family and campus, and lets people filter by time and by who they are going with. Student organizations and venues can post their own events, which a person reviews before they appear. The app has no ads, collects no personal data, and does not require an account.
"Columbia has something going on almost every night, but you only find out if you already follow the right accounts. I wanted one place where anyone, a freshman or someone who has lived here for twenty years, can open a map and see what is happening tonight." — Ajay Kumar, creator of CoMo Events
